Scope and Content Locomotive at Kipps Motive Power Depot (gasworks), Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire This view, taken in about 1966 from the east-south-east, shows the ex-Highland Railway 'Jones Goods' 4-6-0 no 103, built in 1894 by Sharp, Stewart & Co Ltd in Glasgow, as restored to work special excursions to an exhibition in Glasgow in 1959. The structure on the left is a coaling tower. In 1967 the historic locomotives stored here were transferred to the first Glasgow Transport Museum in Albert Drive. They were later moved to the new museum in the Kelvin Hall. One, the North British Railway's 'Glen Douglas' is currently at the Scottish Railway Preservation Society's Bo'ness Depot. This depot was originally established by the Monkland Railways in the 1840s, but was subsequently rebuilt by the North British and London & North Eastern Railways. It continued to service steam locomotives until about 1962, and was then used to store British Railways' collection of historic Scottish locomotives. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
