Scope and Content Gravestone of John, Mary and Thomas Wast, Inchbraoch Churchyard, Braoch Road, Inchbraoch, Angus This shows the main face of the stone with its carved depiction of two men in a rowing boat, which is shown on a wavy 'sea' below the curved top of the monument. Both figures wear bicorn hats. The text below is crisply cut into the stone resembling printed text. It is not clear whether or not this stone commemorates a mariner. The figures in the boat may be intended to symbolise the father and his son referred to in the inscription, or perhaps show an allegorical scene symbolising a journey through life. This commemorates John Wast, who died in 1834, Mary Wast, who died in 1820, and Thomas, who died in 1853. It is inscribed: '1834/BY/JOHN WAST/In memory of his father/JOHN WAST who died/18th August 1834 aged/61 years, & his children/Mary who died July 1820/aged 1 year/Thomas who died July 1853/aged 10 months'.
