Scope and Content Train at Buchanan Street Station, Glasgow This shows the north-east end of the station from the east-south-east, in the early 1960s, with a Glasgow-Aberdeen train leaving. Behind the train are the carriage sidings serving the station. The locomotive is a British Railways standard class 5MT 4-6-0. This was a typical Glasgow-Aberdeen train of the period. The locomotive was one of the last of its class to be built, and the coaches are from the former London, Midland & Scottish Railway. Buchanan Street Station was closed in November 1966, and has been demolished. This station was opened in 1849 by the Caledonian Railway, which had taken over the Glasgow, Garnkirk & Coatbridge Railway, which had initiated its construction. It was rebuilt in the 1930s by the London, Midland & Scottish Railway. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
