Scope and Content Roineabhal (Roneval) House, Obbe Road, Leverburgh, Harris, Western Isles, from south-west This house has a central two-storeyed main block, and flanking single-storeyed wings. The main building has three bays, and steps leading up to the front door, which is placed off centre. The single-storeyed wings have two bays each, and all the roofs are slates. The house probably dates to the 19th century. It is thought that this was formerly the village school, and probably also served as a home for the schoolmaster. Lewis and Harris are both parts of the same island, collectively known as 'the Long Island', which is the most northerly in the Outer Hebrides. Together they are about 95km in length and around 32km at the widest point. Most of Lewis is quite low-lying, whereas Harris is mountainous. Leverburgh, once known as Obbe, is at the south-west tip of Harris. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
