Scope and Content Parish Church, Main Street, Kilconquhar, Fife, from south This view from the south, taken in 1979, shows the cruciform church with its massive west tower. The openwork parapets are based on English models. This design is a richly elaborate version of the 'Heritors' Gothic' which was very popular from about 1813-40. This church replaced a medieval building, a fragment of which survives to the east, partly converted into a burial enclosure. R & R Dickson used another version of the Cockpen design for Kettle Parish Church, in the Howe of Fife. Kilconquhar is a small and notably picturesque village, the estate village for Kilconquhar Castle. This building was constructed in 1819-21 by R & R Dickson, using a design made in 1818 by Richard Crichton for Cockpen Parish Church, Midlothian. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
