Scope and Content High Street, Anstruther Wester, Fife, from west This view from the west, taken in 1979, shows the entrance front of the manse. The porch is a later addition, and incorporates in its parapet two sculptured stones, probably from an older building. The street to the left leads to the harbour, now a mere fragment. The manse was later owned by a sea captain. Anstruther Wester became a burgh of barony in 1541, 31 years before Anstruther Easter, but the latter proved more successful, and the former is now effectively a suburb of the latter, though it still retains, as here, something of the flavour of its mercantile past. The range of buildings of which this is a part line the route from the quay wall of the former harbour of Anstruther Wester to the rest of the burgh. They are mainly of mid-18th-century date, though several incorporate earlier masonry. This one is the old manse of 1703. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
