Scope and Content Old Parish Church, Dollar, Clackmannan, from south-east This view from the south-east, taken in 1979, shows the 1775 church, a gabled structure typical of its period, with a fine Ogee-topped belfry. The joist-holes for a gallery can be seen through the window opening. The graveyard contains some earlier 18th-century tombstones. In the 1920s the responsibility for maintaining churchyard burial-grounds was transferred from the Church of Scotland to the local authorities. This responsibility covered ruined churches in the churchyards, like this one. Because the 1775 building had such a short life it is remarkably unaltered. This building was constructed in 1775, and was supplanted in 1841 by a large Gothic Revival church, designed by Sir William Tite, in its grounds. The 1775 building was then unroofed, but the shell remains in good condition. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
