Scope and Content Anstruther Easter Harbour, Fife, from north-west This view from the north-west, taken in 1979, shows the 'North Carr' lightship moored to the east quay of the east basin. This lightship was built in 1937, but was supplanted in 1975 by the installation of a large light buoy. She was saved by North East Fife District District Council. By the 1970s Anstruther was almost dead as a fishing port, and was used mainly by pleasure craft. The Scottish Fisheries Museum had been established in 1969. The 'North Carr' has now been moved to the Victoria Dock, Dundee. In the Middle Ages Anstruther was a trading port of some significance, with two harbours, on either side of the mouth of the Dreel Burn. Anstruther Wester harbour is now much reduced, but Anstruther Easter Harbour was rebuilt in 1866-77, and enlarged in the 1930s, both for the fishing industry. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
