Scope and Content New Grange Foundry, Links Road, Bo'ness, Falkirk This shows the west side of the blacksmiths' and engineering shop on the right, with another old building on the left. The three chimneys served the blacksmiths' hearths. In the distance is part of the derrick crane which serves the yard where large moulding boxes are stored. This foundry is still in operation in 2003, and took over the goodwill of the Dock Foundry when it closed in the 1980s. Ballantynes are now the largest makers of ornamental castings in Scotland. This foundry was established in 1856 as a general foundry, making, among other objects, architectural ironwork. It 1971 it was owned by A Ballantyne & Sons Ltd, and still made architectural ironwork, and also engineering castings, using a range of moulding techniques. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
