Scope and Content Cornton Foundry, Cornton Road, Bridge of Allan, Stirling This shows the interior of the larger of the two moulding shops, with greensand moulds ready for pouring. These moulds are for road castings, the main products of the firm. Note the weights on top of the boxes on the right, to stop the top of the moulds floating off during pouring. In 1971 this foundry was still owned by a Mr Davie, who ran it with two employees, who moulded for a fortnight, then poured all the moulds at once. Most of the output was sold to Perth County Council and to Stirling Town Council. The foundry has since closed and been demolished. This foundry was built in 1940-2 by James Davie & Sons, iron founders and engineers, who had a foundry in the centre of Stirling where they made architectural castings and agricultural implements. The new foundry was built to make castings for the war effort. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
