Scope and Content Kittybrewster Station, Powis Terrace, Aberdeen This shows the building on the north-bound platform from an Inverness-bound diesel multiple-unit train. The wooden construction of the station, with its awning supported on cast-iron columns, is typical of the Great North of Scotland Railway in the 1880s and 1890s. The Aberdeen suburban services were hit badly by the electrification of the city's tramways in the early 1900s, and went during World War I. Kittybrewster remained open until the mid-1960s, when it closed during the Beeching cuts. This building has now been demolished. The first station in Kittybrewster was opened in 1854 by the Great North of Scotland Railway as the southern terminus of that company's line to Huntly. After the line was extended to Waterloo in 1855 Kittybrewster lost most of its importance. The station in this view was probably built in the early 1890s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
