Scope and Content Signal Box, Elliot Junction, Elliot, Angus This shows the large and tall box from an Aberdeen-bound train. The branch line went off to the left. The box is of a late North British Railway type, and was probably built when the branch line became a public railway in 1900. The line in the foreground is a goods siding. Elliot Junction was the scene of a notable collision in 1906, involving a North British Railway express train and a Caledonian Railway local train, and a driver reputedly under the influence of drink. This signal box is on what was built as the Dundee & Arbroath Railway, which later became joint between the North British and Caledonian Railways. It was at the junction between this line and the North British Railway's branch to Carmyllie, converted from a private line in 1900. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
