Scope and Content New Grange Foundry, Links Road, Bo'ness, Falkirk This shows the more modern of the two cupolas, installed in 1966. This has a spark-arresting top. The older open-topped cupola is behind this one, and probably dated back to the late 19th century. To the left of the cupolas is part of the heavy moulding shop. This foundry is still in operation in 2003, and took over the goodwill of the Dock Foundry when it closed in the 1980s. Ballantynes are now the largest makers of ornamental castings in Scotland. This foundry was established in 1856 as a general foundry, making, among other objects, architectural ironwork. It 1971 it was owned by A Ballantyne & Sons Ltd, and still made architectural ironwork, and also engineering castings, using a range of moulding techniques. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
