Scope and Content Denny Iron Works, Glasgow Road, Denny, Falkirk This shows the two one-ton electric induction furnaces used to melt steel for making castings. The nearer one is being prepared for tapping. To the right are ladles for conveying the liquid steel to the moulding shop. This firm was primarily a maker of agricultural machinery, especially ploughs and Cambridge rollers, and also made iron and steel castings as engineering components, for, among others, J & T Boyd, textile machinery makers, Glasgow. The iron founding industry was a speciality of the south-east corner of Stirlingshire, with the towns of Larbert, Denny, Falkirk and Bonnybridge all having several firms engaged in this business. The Denny Iron Works was founded in 1870, and belonged to Cruikshank & Co Ltd. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
