Scope and Content Bearsden Station, Drymen Road, Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire This shows the main building, on the Glasgow-bound platform, from the north-west. The agent's house is on the first floor. The ground floor contained the booking office and waiting rooms, with the gentlemen's lavatory in the single-storey block at this end. This line was singled in the 1970s. This building was then converted into a restaurant, radically altering its appearance. The building on the other platform has been demolished. A small new booking office has been built to the east off the main building. This station was opened in 1863 by the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railway as part of a branch to Milngavie from the Glasgow, Dumbarton & Helensburgh Railway, which the Edinburgh & Glasgow had absorbed in 1862. It was originally a single-line station, but the line was later doubled by the North British Railway. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
