Scope and Content Comelybank Foundry, Broad Street, Denny, Falkirk This shows the cupola being tapped into a ladle on wheels, which will then be used to fill the hand-ladles used to fill the moulds. The shaft of the cupola is on the other side of the wall. This foundry was owned by the Comelybank Foundry Co Ltd. It was making pipes, manholes and a special gear wheel at the time of this visit. The pipes and manholes were dipped in hot tar after fettling as a precaution against rusting. The iron founding industry was a speciality of the south-east corner of Stirlingshire, with the towns of Larbert, Denny, Falkirk and Bonnybridge all having several firms engaged in this business. This was a small general foundry, built in the late 19th century, which also made aluminium castings. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
