Scope and Content North Leith Passenger Station (1846-1947), Edinburgh Leith (North) - ex Caledonian Railway. This shows the Commercial Street frontage of the goods station. The broad arched bay is the goods shed, and the office is to the left. As can be seen, the complex was used as a paper and board warehouse in 1970. The goods service on this line lasted much longer than the passenger service, and did not end until the 1960s, when rail freight services were drastically reduced as part of the Beeching cuts. This building has since been demolished. This station was opened in 1846 by the Edinburgh, Leith & Granton Railway. In 1952, it was renamed Leith Citadel Goods Station. It was sited to serve the East and West Old Docks, with a goods line crossing Commercial Street. A goods station was later added on a site to the west, also fronting Commercial Street.
