Scope and Content Bonded Warehouses, Commercial Street, Edinburgh This shows the buildings from the south-west. The irregularity of the massing and detailing of these buildings contrasts markedly with those at the east end, which, though not identical, are similar in scale to each other. These warehouses were occupied as whisky bonds by Macdonald & Muir in 1970. Macdonald & Muir were whisky blenders and owners of Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain. They occupied a large proportion of this long range of warehouses until the 1990s. The company has now changed its name to Glenmorangie plc. These warehouses are the western end of a long series of such buildings built to serve the East and West Old Docks, designed by John Rennie and built in 1800-6 and 1810-17 respectively. The eastern warehouses were built at the same time as the docks. These ones are later, probably late 19th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
