Scope and Content Lambhill Iron Works, No 30 Strachur Street, Glasgow This shows the works office and gatehouse in Strachur Street. The taller section was probably built in the 1920s, as was the ground floor of the lower section, the upper section of which probably dated from about 1960. The works was sited on the banks of the Forth & Clyde Canal, to use the canal for bringing in pig and malleable iron and coal. It was later rail-served. It closed in the 1970s and has been demolished. This works was founded in 1881 by R Laidlaw & Son, gas and water engineers, who had earlier been based at the Barrowfield Works in Bridgeton. Laidlaws were the biggest firm of their kind in Glasgow, and built such large structures as gas holders. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
