Scope and Content Glasgow Rubber Works, Nos 125-9 Shuna Street, Glasgow This shows the tallest part of the complex from the west. This was probably built in the early years of the 20th century. The works wharf on the canal can be seen below the chimneys. The building on the left is part of the Glasgow Lead & Colour Works of Alexander, Fergusson & Co. George McLellan & Co became Glasgow's largest firm of rubber manufacturers, and made a wide range of goods, including waterproofs and hot water bottles. The firm is still in business as McLellan Rubber Ltd. This works was built from about 1876 for George McLellan & Co, india-rubber, asbestos and waterproof manufacturers. Substantial additions were made to the complex between 1895 and 1914, most designed by George Simpson, architect. The works is on the Glasgow Branch of the Forth & Clyde Canal.
