Scope and Content Detail of arched window, Home Farm, Gordon Castle, Moray Gordon Castle Home Farm was built for the 4th Duke of Gordon by John Baxter, an Edinburgh architect, who undertook a massive programme of reconstruction at Gordon Castle, beside the River Spey. Between 1769 and 1783 he transformed the castle into a magnificent, ducal palace. This shows an elegant, arched, Georgian-style window. It is hard to believe that it was built as part of a farm steading designed to house the duke's stables and carriage house. Its architectural style matches that of the castle nearby with its battlements and fine arched windows. After reconstruction, the northern façade of Gordon Castle was 173m long and consisted of a central tower with two matching wings. The whole building was battlemented. Its gigantic size made it an impracticable proposition for modern living and much of the castle was demolished in the mid-20th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
