Scope and Content Farmhouse, Wester Kittochside Farm, South Lanarkshire, from north Wester Kittochside Farm is a rare example of a farm whose buildings span three centuries of agricultural change from the late 18th-century improvement period to modern times. Recent developments, however, have hardly touched it and the farm, gifted to The National Trust for Scotland in 1992 and now supporting the Museum of Scottish Country Life, is rare in having such intact examples of original buildings. This is a view of the farmhouse from the north showing the rear entrance and the 1906 north wing with lean-to porch. The extension was built to allow the segregation of the various domestic functions and provide more specialised rooms such as a kitchen and more bedrooms. The windows are predominantly 12-paned timber sash and case throughout. In the original interior layout the eastern section was the only bedroom with a partitioned-off closet. The attic contained three small rooms with box beds to house the children and servants. It was probably in the late 1920s that electricity was installed. The drawing room was refurbished in the late 19th century in a Classical style with rococo mirror overmantel. Today it is furnished as it would have been in the 1950s.
