Scope and Content Aerial view of Dens Park and Tannadice Park, Tannadice Street, Dundee In 1909, the Irish community in Dundee formed a new football club, Dundee Hibernian, following the demise of Dundee Harp three years earlier. Renamed Dundee United Football Club in 1923, the Club was based at Clepington Park, now Tannadice Park. City rivals Dundee Football Club was formed in 1893 as a result of an amalgamation of Our Boys and East End. Dundee FC moved to Dens Park in 1898/9. This aerial view from the north-east shows Tannadice in the foreground and Dens Park behind. Although the older ground, Tannadice was long regarded as an upstart. Architects, James Paul Associates have been retained for the last 20 years to oversee building works. The total capacity of the ground is now around 14,000. During World War II, Tannadice played host to an Empire bantam-weight title fight won by local boy, Jim Brady, and in 1956 Dundee United became the first Scottish club to operate their own pools competition, a pioneering step which was to prove the club's making in the next few decades. During the building work of the 1960s players spent half-time in the canteen of the jute factory on Tannadice Street. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
