Scope and Content Detail of door and stairs to granary on south side of building, Warsetter Farm, Sanday, Orkney Islands Warsetter is a well-preserved example of a characteristic 19th-century Orcadian steading. Unused since the 1980s, it has altered little and been well-maintained by the owners, the Horne family. Warsetter is on the island of Sanday, one of the largest of the Orkney Islands. This shows the steps up to the door of the first-floor granary. The ground floor of the building served as a byre and opened directly onto the yard on the other side. Many Orkney farms produced surplus grain which was stored in the granary until sale and shipment had been arranged. Warsetter comprises about 460 acres. It was taken over by Robert Horne at the end of the 19th century. In about 1910, the farm passed to Hamilton Horne and by the end of the century, one of his sons, Hew, was still living in the farmhouse but had rented out the land, mostly for cattle grazing, to neighbouring farmers.
