Scope and Content Warehouses, Nos 61-65 Commercial Street, Leith, Edinburgh These warehouses were built along the south side of the East and West Old Docks, which were designed by John Rennie and built in 1800-06 and 1810-17, and which were Leith's first enclosed docks. The warehouses, in two sections, were designed by John Paterson, engineer, and built from 1810. This shows the warehouses from the south-east. They are not uniform, but have a common style. On the right is 1-11 Dock Place, also designed by John Paterson, with housing at the ends and warehousing in the middle. Paterson was the resident engineer for Leith Docks. The western section of these warehouses was used by whisky blenders and distillers McDonald & Muir for storage and blending. Both sections have now been converted into offices, flats and restaurants. The docks themselves were filled in in the late 1960s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
