Scope and Content Lead Works, Nos 42-45 Mitchell Street, Leith, Edinburgh This works dated from the mid 19th century, and was owned by Thomas B Campbell and Co Ltd, metal and plumbers' merchants, lead and zinc manufacturers. The offices and main entrance were in Constitution Street, and the works extended back along Mitchell Street. This shows the Mitchell Street frontage of the works from the north-east. Behind this frontage were workshops containing a rolling mill for producing sheet lead and apparatus for making lead pipe by extrusion of molten lead, as well as warehouses. This works operated into the early 1980s. It was disused by 1984, and the lead-rolling mill had been removed. A project to reuse the buildings was put together, in the mid 1980s, but this failed, and the complex has been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
