Scope and Content West Front, St Paul's Church, Newark Street, Finnart, Greenock, Inverclyde (now Finnart St Paul's Church of Scotland) St Paul's Church, Greenock, a finely detailed red sandstone church, was designed in 1893 in a late Gothic style by the architect, Sir Robert Rowand Anderson. The church was photographed shortly after it was completed in 1894 by the distinguished architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The west front has a vestibule, and porches on the north and south sides which give access to a gallery over the vestibule. The main entrance is by a pointed arched doorway, flanked by windows which light the vestibule, and above is a large eight-light traceried window. Anderson's plan for the church originally included a tower which was to be constructed to the north of the choir aisle. The tower, however, was never built, but the splendid west window is said to partly compensate for its absence. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
