Scope and Content Hibernian Football Club, Easter Road Stadium, Albion Road, Edinburgh, from south-east Hibernian Football Club, popularly known as 'Hibs' or 'the Hi-bees', was formed in 1875. It moved to the first of its Easter Road sites in 1880 and has remained the vicinity since. Following the deaths of 96 football supporters at Hillsborough, Sheffield in 1989, Hibs, along with other major clubs, became an all-seated stadium by 1994. This shows Hibs' ground in 1994 before becoming an all-seated stadium. The south terrace in the foreground was the last to have seats installed by the 1994 deadline. Both north and south stands were demolished and new ones erected in 1995. The west stand, on the left, was also replaced by a new one in 2001. In order to comply with new regulations following the Hillsborough disaster, Hibs installed bucket seats on the south terrace in 1994, whilst they examined the possibility of moving to another ground. As the new south stand remained uncovered, the club issued supporters with plastic capes in wet weather. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
