Scope and Content Canopies and main entrance from east, Linn Crematorium, Lainshaw Drive, Glasgow Linn Crematorium was built in 1964 to designs by Thomas C Cordiner & Partners. The complex contains large and small chapels, a room of remembrance, service block and long concrete cantilevered canopies over walkways on either side of the main building. This shows the reinforced concrete canopies over the entrance to the crematorium (left) and over the benches by the drive. The canopy is cantilevered over the space, and is supported on pilotis (tapering columns). The wall of the main building features panels of patterned blocks set with coloured glass. The chapel interiors are uncluttered and simple in design, creating calm and respectful spaces for memorial services. The exterior is more expressive, with its sculptural reinforced concrete structures. This building has been selected as one of Scotland's key 20th-century Modern architectural monuments.
