Scope and Content Main entrance from south-east, Linn Crematorium, Lainshaw Drive, Glasgow Linn Crematorium was built in 1964 to designs by Thomas C Cordiner & Partners. The complex contains large and small chapels, a room of remembrance, service block and long concrete cantilevered canopies over walkways on either side of the main building. This shows the main entrance with its heavy concrete canopy resting on a tapering support (known as a pilotis). The walls of the main building are of brick and concrete, with a glazed section (right). The main chapel (left) features walls of patterned blocks inset with coloured glass. These add ornamentation to the otherwise plain interior. The crematorium houses St Mungo's Chapel, which holds 310 people, and St Giles' Chapel which holds 32. The design of the building ensures that mourners using each chapel may arrive and depart via separate areas for privacy. This building has been selected as one of Scotland's key 20th-century Modern architectural monuments. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
