Scope and Content South-eastern covered walk from south-east, Linn Crematorium, Lainshaw Drive, Glasgow Linn Crematorium was built in 1964 to designs by Thomas C Cordiner & Partners. The complex contains large and small chapels, a room of remembrance, service block and long concrete cantilevered canopies over walkways on either side of the main building. This shows the pavements with their cantilevered canopies forming a stepped roof as they ascend the hilltop site. The shelter rests on tapering supports known as pilotis. One side of the structure is glazed, but many panes are missing. The main chapel with its patterned central wall can be seen far right. The crematorium houses St Mungo's Chapel, which holds 310 people, and St Giles' Chapel which holds 32. The design of the building allows mourners to arrive or depart in privacy without meeting another group. This building has been selected as one of Scotland's key 20th-century Modern architectural monuments. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
