Scope and Content Printing Works, Nos 46-50 North Hanover Street, Glasgow This works was founded in about 1871 by Gilmour & Dean, engravers, lithographers and steam printers. The building in this view was constructed in 1913 to designs by Clifford & Lunan, architects. It is faced with red sandstone on the North Hanover Street elevation. This shows the building, in the middle of the view, with its corner tower and Edwardian Baroque detailing. Gilmour & Dean remained artistic printers, so that the architectural treatment was an advertisement. The building on the right was formerly offices for the North British Railway. This building was latterly, until its closure in 1968, the offices of Bairds & Scottish Steels Ltd, owners of Gartsherrie Iron Works, and Waverley & Northburn steelworks, all in Coatbridge. It was demolished in the 1970s and became part of the site of a large office development. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
