Scope and Content Time office and weighbridge, Aluminium Works, Kinlochleven, Highland The aluminium works at Kinlochleven was built between 1904 and 1909 by the British Aluminium Company Limited. By 1911 the works were producing about 7,112 tonnes of aluminium per annum which was around 87% of the total output of the company at that time. The works closed in June 2000. This shows the time office which is located at the main entrance to the works. This would have been where employees would 'clock' in and out, and visitors to the works would have also signed in and out. The weighbridge is the metal platform just outside the bay window of the office. Underneath the platform are levers which enable weight to be calculated on a scale probably located in the office. The works was always a significant employer in the area and at one stage over 700 people worked there. When the works closed, a major land regeneration plan was implemented with the main aim of keeping Kinlochleven village viable as a community and economic centre.
