Scope and Content Warehouse in village from the north-east, Aluminium Works, Kinlochleven, Highland The aluminium works at Kinlochleven was built between 1904 and 1909 by the British Aluminium Company Limited. By 1911 the works were producing about 7,112 tonnes of aluminium per annum which was around 87% of the total output of the company at that time. The works closed in June 2000. This shows a warehouse in Kinlochleven village which would have been used by the aluminium works. The warehouse is rubble built with a tiled roof. The hoist on the gable-end has been boarded up and the rollershutter over the main entrance is a modern addition. There had been little development for centuries in the area prior to the building of the works. This all changed during the construction of the works when 2,000-3,000 workmen, or navvies, descended on the area. The community was nicknamed 'Aluminiumville'. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
