Scope and Content Camperdown Junction Railway Signal Box, Dundee This large signal box was built on the Dundee and Arbroath Joint Railway to control the approach to Dundee Tay Bridge and Dundee East stations, a large goods station, a level crossing, the connection to the harbour tramway, and a siding to Dundee Gas Works. This shows the signal box from the west, with its associated level crossing. The gas holder marks the site of the gas works. The box was sandwiched between railway tracks, hence its narrow base. The brick work of the base shows that the box has been extended to the west at some time. This signal box marked the junction between the North British Railway's line to the Tay Bridge and the south, and the Dundee and Arbroath Joint Railway. Dundee East Station was closed in 1955 and dismantled, and the functions of this box had been much reduced. The box was demolished during the 1980s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
