Scope and Content Dock, Broomielaw & Clyde Place Quay (Transit Sheds), Glasgow This part of Glasgow Harbour was improved in the 1840s, when it was dealing with the bulk of the city's trade. The single-storey transit sheds built on these quays to handle cargoes were prototypes for many later examples. This shows the transit sheds from the top of Randolph. Elder & Co's engine works in Tradeston Street. The nearer ones are in Clyde Place, and the others are in Broomielaw. The building with the corner tower is a Seamen's Home at the corner of Broomielaw and James Watt Street. The Clyde Place sheds are still there, the last of their type in Glasgow Harbour, but the Broomielaw ones went in favour of the Clyde Walkway in the 1970s. The Seamen's Home has also been demolished.
