Scope and Content Gravestone of 'W C', 'M W' and 'S T', New Kilpatrick Parish Church, Manse Road, Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire This gravestone features an unusual vertical row of high relief emblems. They appear to be, from the top, a skull, a heart, a quartered globe, and two sets of crossed bones. The emblems are joined by a ribbon into a 'trophy' joined by a 'cord of life'. The emblems on this gravestone symbolise death (the skull and crossed bones), love (the heart) and worldly things, or the power of love and death over the world (the globe). The inscription on this gravestone has worn away, but some initials are still visible, including 'W C', 'M W' and 'S T'. The large slab of stone may have originally been supported upon stone legs, forming a tablestone. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
