Scope and Content Caledonia Works, West Langlands Street, Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire This works was founded on this site by Andrew Barclay, engineer, and specialised in mining and iron-working machinery, including locomotives. In 1892 it became a limited company as Andrew Barclay, Sons and Co Ltd, and the new company partly rebuilt and extended the works. This shows the interior of the erecting shop added in the early 1900s by the limited company to accommodate more and larger products. The diesel shunting locomotives, for the Mobil Oil Co, were typical of the products of the firm at that time. This works continued in use until the 1990s, when a new workshop was constructed on the other side of West Langlands Street, partly on the site of the company's Titchfield Foundry. The company, now known as Hunslet-Barclay Ltd, is still engaged in railway work. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
