Scope and Content Bedroom, Curling Hall, Largs, North Ayrshire (latterly the Marine and Curlinghall Hotel and now demolished) Curling Hall, a large mansion overlooking the seafront at Largs, was built in 1812. In 1892 the house was extended by the architect, Thomas Graham Abercrombie, and refurbished by Wylie & Lochhead, Glasgow, for John Clark. Harry Bedford Lemere was commissioned to photograph the interior in 1893. The room has a white panelled ceiling, and white painted woodwork and panelling lining the walls. The white bedroom suite consists of a bed, washstand (with marble top and back), towel rail, and chair whose upholstered seat material perfectly co-ordinates with the pattered wallpaper. The interior decorators, Wylie & Lochhead, were a high-profile Glasgow furnishing house who offered an all-in advisory service. It was possible to purchase every conceivable combination of bedroom suite from their showrooms in Buchanan Street, Glasgow, or by mail order from their trade catalogues.
