Scope and Content Entrance Hall, No 1 Park Gardens, Glasgow No 1 Park Gardens, one of six houses in a short Italianate terrace designed c.1855 by the architect, Charles Wilson, on the slopes of Woodlands Hill, was redecorated c.1900 as a townhouse for Lord Inverclyde. The photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, was commissioned to photograph the interior in 1909. The hall has a coved ceiling with detailed cornice plasterwork, and marble Ionic columns on either side of the staircase. The walls have 17th-century style wood (wainscot) panelling with Classical-style pilasters and intricate carved detail above the chimneypiece. Park Gardens was designed as part of Wilson's overall plan for a residential development on the upper slopes of the hill. The development, a magnificent contoured ring of terraces built between 1855 and 1863, dominates the city's skyline and overlooks the green valley of the River Kelvin below.
