Scope and Content First-Floor Landing, No 1 Park Gardens, Glasgow No 1 Park Gardens, one of six houses in a short Italianate terrace designed c.1855 by the architect, Charles Wilson, on the slopes of Woodlands Hill, was redecorated c.1900 as a townhouse for Lord Inverclyde. The photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, was commissioned to photograph the interior in 1909. The landing has a coved ceiling with elaborate plasterwork detail in the form of Classical-style wreaths of leaves and thistles. The walls are lined with 17th-century style wood (wainscot) panelling, with grand doors, which complement the panelling, opening into the principal reception rooms. This tall, three-storeyed townhouse had its principal reception rooms on the first floor. The wooden panelling of the entrance hallway was carried upwards in a continuous sweep of elaborate decoration to the first-floor landing so that guests might ascend to the drawing room in grand style.
