Scope and Content Head Official's Room, Union Bank of Scotland, Nos 110-20 St Vincent Street, Glasgow (now the Bank of Scotland) The Union Bank of Scotland, the head office of the bank in Glasgow, was designed in 1925-7 in an American Classical style by the Glasgow architect, James Miller. The architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, was commissioned to photograph the interior in 1927. This room is lined to ceiling height with moulded wooden panelling, and furnished with a highly polished sideboard and table. The leather-covered chairs, as elsewhere in the building, have cabriole legs, a kind of curved leg characteristic of Queen Anne and Chippendale furniture. The room has the appearance of being very new, and was probably photographed shortly after the building was completed. Lemere was working under commission to Miller who may have been anxious to have photographs of his work published as quickly as possible in order to attract other clients.
