Scope and Content Saw Mill (Power Station), Pollok House, No 2060 Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow This complex consists of a mid-19th century water-powered saw mill, and an adjacent early 20th century electric generating station. The saw mill, with a rack sawbench and other equipment, has a Holyoake water turbine of 1888, and the power station a Waverley turbine by Carrick & Ritchie, Edinburgh. This shows the complex from the north west, with the weir on the White Cart Water which supplied water to both saw mill and power station. The power station is to the left, with the sawmill behind and to the right. The power station was probably installed in about 1900. Apart from the Waverley turbine, still there in the mid 1970s, there was a standby oil engine, and a battery room for storing electricity for use when neither prime mover was working. The Holyoake turbine was still working in 1971. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
