Scope and Content Milton Iron Works, No 142 North Woodside Road, Glasgow This foundry was established in about 1856 by McDowall & Co, iron founders. As McDowall, Steven & Co the firm became leaders in making architectural castings of the more utilitarian kind. The firm seem to have maintained a stock of standard items, as a large warehouse was part of the complex. This shows part of the complex from the north-west, with the east end of the warehouse on the right. On the left is a range of moulding shops, with characteristic roof-ridge ventilators. The gables are largely of masonry construction, suggesting that these buildings may be of the 1850s. By 1924 the firm also owned the Laurieston Foundry in Falkirk. By 1966 the Milton Works had gone, and the warehouse was being used by R S McColl, retail confectioners. Since 1969 the whole complex has been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
