Scope and Content Milton Iron Works, No 142 North Woodside Road, Glasgow This foundry was established in about 1856 by McDowall & Co, iron founders. As McDowall, Steven & Co the firm became leaders in making architectural castings of the more utilitarian kind. The firm seem to have maintained a stock of standard items, as a large warehouse was part of the complex. This shows the warehouse from the north, as revealed by the demolition of a later addition on the right. The central hoist doors are clearly visible. There were probably single-storey moulding shops in the foreground, and some survived out of sight to the left. By 1924 the firm also owned the Laurieston Foundry in Falkirk. By 1966 the Milton Works had gone, and the warehouse was being used by R S McColl, retail confectioners. Since 1969 the whole complex has been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
