Scope and Content Warehouses, No 400 Cathedral Street & Nos 38-44 Cunningham Street, Glasgow These warehouses were built in stages between 1869 and 1904 for William Graham & Co, merchants. The Cathedral Street block was built from 1869, the frontage block being designed by D Thomson, architect, and built in 1880 (western part) and 1904 (eastern part). This shows the complex from the south-west, with the Cathedral Street block to the right and the Cunningham Street range, built in 1882-83, on the left. In the foreground is part of the bridge carrying Cathedral Street over Queen Street Station. This bridge was built in 1878. The firm of W & R Graham, as it was in 1902 had very varied interests, with subsidiaries engaged in bone milling in India, cotton spinning and weaving and printing and paper-making in Portugal, and the importing of port wine. This complex contained offices and warehouses for all these businesses. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
