Scope and Content Sluices, Regent Flour Mills, Bunhouse Road, Glasgow These sluices were on the east side of a large weir on the River Kelvin, constructed to supply water to the Bunhouse Mills of the Incorporation of Bakers in Glasgow. These were destroyed by fire in 1886, and replaced by the Regent Flour Mills in 1887-90, which the weir continued to serve. This shows the sluices from the south. The weir is to the right. The sluices to the right are waste-water sluices, which could be used to reduce the level of the water above the weir, allowing the weir to be repaired. The sluices on the left controlled the flow of water into the lade to the mills. The Regent Mills were disused by 1969, and were demolished in the early 1970s. These sluices were falling into decay in 1969, and have since almost completely disintegrated. The weir itself has been badly damaged by flood water, and no longer impounds water. The lade is totally overgrown. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
