Scope and Content Pollokshields West Station, Glasgow This station was opened in 1894 by the Cathcart District Railway, on the section between Cathcart and Muirhouse Junction via Shawlands which completed the Cathcart Circle, a phenomenally successful suburban line. This shows the station at platform level, looking north-east. The booking office is in the upper storey, reached by short footbridges from both the neighbouring streets, and the waiting rooms, porters' room and lavatories are at platform level. Maxwell Park and this station were the only ones on the Cathcart District Railway built to this design, but all the stations had island platforms, which were well-suited to suburban railways. The building at Pollokshields West was damaged by fire in the 1980s and has been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
