Scope and Content Scotstounhill Station, Kingsway, Glasgow This station was opened in 1887 by the Glasgow, Yoker & Clydebank Railway, a branch from the Stobcross Branch of the North British Railway to a station on the east side of Clydebank. By using the Glasgow City & District Railway services could be run through central Glasgow. This shows part of the building on the west-bound platform, looking west. The station on the other platform was similar, but larger, but in 1969 it was being replaced by a modern flat-roofed building. The buildings at Scotstounhill were quite different in character from those at other stations on the North British Railway-worked west-end suburban system. The elaboration of these buildings may have been designed to encourage villa building in the vicinity. This building did not survive its neighbour for long. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
