Scope and Content Dining Room, The Homestead (now Malcolm Sargent House), No 22 Links Road, Prestwick, South Ayrshire The Homestead, a large Edwardian villa designed by the Ayrshire architect, James A Morris, was built in 1901. A series of photographs of the interior was taken in 1903 by the distinguished architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The room has a 'refined' inglenook, with seating provided by an armchair in an Arts and Crafts covering. The walls are hung conventionally with portraits, but the table has unusual place settings and is lit by an extraordinary flower-shaped light fitting. The typical Edwardian dining room was generally a 'heavy' room where sombre tones were seen to be appropriate. It was often oak panelled to door height, with a plain frieze above, hung with portraits, and furnished with a dining table and sideboard. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
